I hadn't expected to post an update until our fiction piece later today, but it looks like it's already time for some new Stretch Goals! Because we've just unlocked our Scion: God jumpstart!!

ACHIEVED! - At $80,000 in Funding - Scion: God Jumpstart - An introductory scenario to launch your Scion: God story, complete with Ready-made Characters and basic rules will be created and released as a supplemental PDF. All backers receiving the Scion: God PDF will automatically have this added as a bonus reward.

One of the things I really like about Onyx Path's Jumpstart products - they provide the perfect launching pad for a new story or chronicle without necessarily plotting out how that story will unfold beyond the Jumpstart. Like, it's not a city map so much as it is a neighborhood with open roads at the end and some street signs to set you off in different directions.

OK, I'm probably getting lost in my analogies here, but I like the ones that give me a solid footing and then provide new ideas to explore going forward. Because sometimes, especially with games with possibilities as open as Scion: God, I need a little direction or some kind of framework to start building our story. So let's have some more tools in that vein for our next Stretch Goal!



At $90,000 in Funding – Divine Inspiration Supplement – Scion: God contains so many options for play and story paths to explore it can be a challenge to narrow your focus. Onyx Path will create a supplement to provide some direction and ideas for Storyguides to build upon, including creative Plot Seeds to explore in your game. All backers receiving the Scion: God PDF as one of their rewards will automatically receive the Divine Inspiration PDF as a bonus reward.

 Love that! While we've got the jumpstart coming to help get you up and running, and the Companion supplement to explore more of the rules an options side of the game, this Divine Inspiration supplement will be focused more on the story side, providing tools for the Storyguide to put together some epic tales!

Well, to say it's been an exciting 48 hours is an understatement! We actually hit our project target and funded the book in just over 2 hours, so we've been able to spend the past 46 hours adding new opportunities and rewards!

First, let's celebrate funding this amazing epic step on the journey for our Scions! From Heroes to Demigods to Gods, this climactic step is a big one!

After that, we've managed to more than double our initial funding target and unlock a new Add On opportunity and a new supplement full of bonus content.

This can be added to any reward tier containing a hardcover book for only +$25 (plus additional international shipping charges based on your location).

ACHIEVED! - At $60,000 in Funding – Scion: God Companion Supplement – Scion: God is a complex game, covering running religions, killing Gods, managing Realms, and possibly even running games where players play multiple Incarnation of the same God. This has huge potential for confusion. Onyx Path will create a Companion supplement for Scion: God that will explain some concepts in more detail, as well as provide evocative and fun examples. All backers receiving the Scion: God PDF as one of their rewards will automatically receive the Scion: God Companion PDF as a bonus reward.


ACHIEVED! - At $70,000 in Funding – Scion: God Companion Supplement II – The Companion supplement will be expanded to include additional information on Incarnations and Mantles, possibly including rules for rebellious incarnations that seek to sever their connection to their God, Incarnation troupe play, or forging or fighting for new Mantles.

And our next Stretch Goal target adds another bonus supplement.

We're already on a way towards unlocking that one! These Scion: God supplements would not exist without your support, and any backer who will be receiving the Scion: God PDF as one of their pledge rewards will automatically have these rewards added to their list as a bonus! I'm pretty sure there's more to come as well - there's no limit to how much we can add to that Companion PDF!

One of my favorite bits in the Scion Second Edition books (and, really, most of the Onyx Path games) is the in-setting fiction. I find it very evocative and engaging, and often helps me wrap my brain around the concepts introduced in the game in a way that just reading the numbers and charts doesn't. For me, it helps connect the game to the story, I guess is what I'm saying.

Tomorrow we'll have the first of three fiction pieces that will be included in the final version of the manuscript and the eventual finalized Scion: God release. The Visitor Before the Dawn of the World drops tomorrow!

As posted in our first Update (check it out if you haven't!) we'll be sharing the complete draft manuscript, chapter by chapter, over the course of this campaign. Next Tuesday we'll look Chapter 2, which covers the Game of Immortals - how the Gods actually interact with The World. But that doesn't mean we'll have to wait until then to talk about it!
 
We'll have a sneak peek of one bit on Sunday to get a taste of what's to come. There are three main venues for this expression - Incarnation, Divine Rule, and Cults & Religion. Check out the Poll attached to this update and let me know which of these bits you'd like to peek at before the manuscript drop!

 

Thanks for all of your support over these first 48 hours, for the 4 weeks to come, and, really, for the past several years. Scion Second Edition was crowdfunded back in October of 2016, and while that was about a year before I came to help out on these projects for Onyx Path, I'm really happy that I was able to participate first as a backer and then as a Crowdfunding Concierge for Scion: Demigod and Scion: God (and Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos as well!) While this game is a climax to many stories, it's by no means an ending for the game, and you've shown again and again it's alive and well!

So, thanks again for your support, and please spread the word wherever you can. We're on a new platform (though most of you will already be pretty familiar with BackerKit) and not all of the Demigods have found their way over to us yet. So let others know in your social circles and on your social media, and let's see if we can't unlock that Jumpstart reward - and many more beyond that, over the next 4 weeks!

What can I say? WE DID IT!

Working together, we've managed to fund the development and production of Scion: God, the ultimate epic rulebook for the Scion Second Edition game line!



An incredible next step in the Scion story!

I'm really pleased with our success so far. I think the team knew that the Scion fans would be eager to support this 4th Book for Scion Second Edition, but testing out a new platform and exploring different partnerships always presents a mystery. Well, that mystery has been solved! Our Scions will become Gods!   

Now that we've accomplished our main task, let's see if we can't add a few additional options for backers and maybe start building some supplemental content.

As we increase the overall funding and support for the project, we’re able to add additional resources to the project, expand the rewards listed, and add in new offers and opportunities. Each Stretch Goal will have a target that, once reached, will add a project to the reward list for backers of the relevant Stretch Goal path. Whenever we achieve a stretch goal, the image will be updated to reflect the achievement.

Hello Scions!

Welcome aboard! As noted in my first Discussion Post (if you haven't checked it out yet, drop in and say hi), I'm James - your humble Crowdfunding Concierge for this Onyx Path project.



And what a project it is! The epic next step in the journey that begin with Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero and continued through Scion: Demigod has arrived! Scion: God takes that incredible next step in the journey of Scion Second Edition, possibly bringing your characters to their ultimate conclusion.

And even as same journeys may be coming to a close - or at least a culminating chapter - we're starting a new venture at the same time! A brand new Crowdfunding platform built by our friends at BackerKit.

We're very happy to be along as part of their beta test roll out. We've been partners with BackerKit, using their Pledge Manager for more than 40 projects, and are looking forward to helping them grow this side of their business and introduce new opportunities for companies to interact with their fans and supporters. As mentioned, this platform is still in beta mode, so we'll all be learning about it as we go, and hopefully making tweaks as we go. 

Over the next 30 days as we explore this Ultimate stage for our Scions, we’ll be previewing the complete approved draft manuscript for Scion: God. The first few manuscript downloads will be posted in an update just like this! Eventually, in a few weeks, we'll have them behind a Backers-only wall so that you'll have to be a supporter of this project to read them. But, that's info for a few weeks from now (when the BackerKit team has figured out how to code that!) For now, you can find the first manuscript preview below...

Upcoming Preview Schedule

Over the next 4 weeks, we’ll be able to download all of the chapters contained within this book. There’s a lot of content, but as outlined above, it’ll be coming out in digestible sections. By the end of this campaign, we’ll have posted every word in the current manuscript – you’ll be able to read along and see exactly what this book contains and how it’s put together before the campaign concludes and before any payments are processed!

That said, note that these documents are previews of the current draft manuscript – the document in its latest, approved form. This may not be the final form after any additional development, but you can consider it about 95% finished, so keep that in mind.
